Ten years going strong! -DJ Sith - May 18 01:41am | |

I can't believe I'm even writing this. Who knew that we'd still be here 10 years down the line? Frankly, I think it's pretty amazing. It takes a special group of folks to keep these things going so long. The Jedi Academy is seriously and easily one of the best and brightest gaming communities that I've had the privilege to be a part of.
We've been through quite a bit, haven't we? Some of our members grew up here. I've seen kids graduate high school, finish university, move around the world, get awesome jobs, get married, have kids, and all the while while keeping in touch with our little community. We've also lost a fair share of students and staff, either to other communities and games or to sickenss and death. It really is remarkable how these experiences have made us grow. Personally speaking, it's hard to believe I've known some of you since you were twelve. We built this community around Jedi Outcast and Jedi Academy. I think it's only natural to move on to more modern games, but I'm glad that we still hang out here. Our budding little SWTOR community is doing well, and you should definitely check it out. Incredible and super mad props to R2D2, Laziana, Alex D'Kana, Plaaank, and everyone else who's been pitching in on that front. I also want to drop a hat towards the other council members. Being a JAC is a pretty thankless job, and it takes a special kind of masochist to keep it up. Big ups to Virtue (incredible ups to you, you're the king of all things here), Setementor, Solitude, Lirael, Jacen Solo, Silent Whisper, Chosen-One, Buzz, Huxley, Aron, Orion, Avalon D'Kana, Massadoobie, and the guy who started it all JediSith999. We've had more knights, trainers, and staff members than I can count. Thanks for keeping everyone on their toes and for donating your time to us. Finally, I want to thank every one of you for keeping up alive, for having fun, and for giving all of us Star Wars nerds a cool-ass place to hang out on the Internet. SWTOR's given us a bunch of new members who have really been pitching in too. A special thanks to you guys. The best online communities are made from the best people, and I fully expect to be making another post like this ten years from now. I suppose I can gush on forever, but I'll spare you that. Please comment on this post if you've got an awesome memory to share, want to reminisce, or want to catch up. I'll see y'all on the servers! |

I moved the hyphen when I read it. I was rather curious as to what a "cool ass-place" is... Along with Setementor, I also grew up here. I joined when I was 10 and I'm 17 now. |

I think I still have my acceptance email from 2003, back then I was a student...and I still am, damn!
Anyway I've had some great times and I expect to continue to, who knows, if TJA reaches its 20th birthday, I could even have a job _______________ I can write my name with my sparkler. My sparkler > your lightsabre |

10 years, wow, that's quite an achievement in itself. Just think back of what the internet was back in 2002 - some people used a dial-up modem, there was no YouTube, not even Facebook. The Jedi Academy was playing JK:JO at the time. We've gone over many transitions over the course of time, all the while remaining true to what made this community great. I'm having a hard time thinking up any community that has been around as long as this place has been and still manages to get 20+ players in a tournament together.
I've had a great time here personally. The minute I joined this place had something special. Nothing magical and it certainly isn't a cult, just a community with friendly people willing to help one another out. I love all the friends I've made here, the classes I attended to, the padawan sessions, the random fun stuff, etc etc. Yeah, happy 10th birthday, JA! _______________ The name is Bond. James Bond. Yep, I grew up here. I was maybe 12 when I joined, and I'm 20 now. It was definitely a good influence and matured me fast and taught me many things. I think a lot of people have learned something or other important here, whatever that may be.
Like a lot of JAK+, my most fun times have been trials. I also enjoyed the proms, tournaments, coop, classes and Virtue's idea of fun on the servers and perhaps more importantly, meeting so many oool people. I've run a series of events over the last week in JKA which have been great. The turnout hasn't been overly huge, but I'm being told that a lot of people intend to be at the prom on Saturday evening, so hope to see people there! I'll post demos and screenshots of all the events on the forums later on. |
R2D2 - Staff |
From my first class (Flash's beginner red stance class) to my trials to competing with the JAA, the JA has provided me with numerous memories and friends during my time here. We've always been THE place for Jedi training, and I hope I can bring that motto to our new branch of our community within SWTOR.
Thanks for everyone who has made this community what it is and where it will be! _______________ "Do or do not, there is no try" Jedi Master Yoda Dual Saberist |

I think the coolest awesomest I've felt here is when I got my first thank you letter from a student. Online communities are easy to hide behind websites and game servers. It's cool to know that the work you do has personally impacted someone positively out in meatspace.
Also, none of y'all have no idea how many times I've accidentally destroyed this site, crapped myself, and then rushed out a bug fix or a database restore. This is the fun part, right? _______________ My car is made of Nerf. |
